As chaos spread and the ship began to sink, four Army chaplains worked together to bring calm and hope to the soldiers on board.</div><div style="text-align:left;"><br/></div><div style="text-align:left;">Those chaplains, Lt. George L. Fox (Methodist), Lt. Alexander D. Goode (Jewish), Lt. John P. Washington (Catholic), and Lt. Clark V. Poling (Reformed Church in America), helped frightened soldiers board lifeboats, guided men through the darkness, and handed out life jackets until none remained.</div><div style="text-align:left;"><br/></div><div style="text-align:left;">When supplies ran out, the chaplains removed their own life jackets and gave them to others, knowing it meant they would not survive. Survivors later recalled seeing the four men standing together on the sinking ship, arms linked in prayer, as it disappeared beneath the waves.</div><div style="text-align:left;"><br/></div><div style="text-align:left;">Their story is remembered not only for bravery, but for unity. Four men of different faiths worked side by side, serving others without hesitation or division. Their actions remind us that compassion, service, and sacrifice cross all boundaries.</div><h2 style="text-align:left;"><strong>Their Legacy</strong></h2><div style="text-align:left;">For veterans and military families, Four Chaplains Day is a moment to honor those who put others first—and to reflect on the bonds of service that continue long after deployment ends.</div><div style="text-align:left;"><br/></div><div style="text-align:left;">At Vet Voice Vanessa, we remember stories like this because they reflect the courage and resilience that define our veteran community. And just as those chaplains stood beside their fellow service members, we stand beside veterans today as they navigate life after service.</div><div style="text-align:left;"><h1 style="text-align:center;"><strong>Their legacy reminds us:</strong><br/><strong style="font-style:italic;">No one should have to face the journey alone.</strong></h1></div><div style="text-align:left;"><br/></div><div style="text-align:left;"><div>If you know a veteran who may need support, please share the <span style="font-weight:bold;"><a href="https://www.vetvoicevanessa.com/" title="Vet Voice Vanessa website" rel=""><strong>Vet Voice Vanessa website</strong></a></span><strong></strong>so they don’t have to go through the VA claims process alone either</div></div></div></div>
